G Brian Juk is an incredibly talented artist who expertly combines techniques in blown, kiln-cast, and hot-worked solid glass to create stunning and functional pieces. He believes that by making utilitarian objects, he can form a special connection with the user. Whether it’s someone drinking from one of his beautifully crafted tumblers or using a candy dish, Juk wants his art to bring joy and establish a meaningful relationship. One of the things he loves most is experimenting with colors to create his own unique and recognizable color schemes. According to Juk, glass is simply breathtaking because of its intrinsic beauty, both in the process of making it and in the final product. He firmly believes that no other material can blend and mix colors quite like glass does. Juk’s journey in the world of glass art began in 1998 in his hometown of Detroit and led him to earn a BFA in glass from Alfred University in 2001. He has had the incredible opportunity to work at prestigious institutions such as The Rakow Library and The Studio before becoming a member of the esteemed Hot Glass team in 2004. He has had the privilege of sharing his knowledge and skills with audiences from all over the world, narrating and demonstrating his craft. Juk’s commitment to growth and improvement has allowed him to learn from some of the most talented glassmakers, including Pino Signoretto, Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen, and James Mongrain, among others. He has also had the chance to travel extensively through programs like Hot Glass at Sea and engage in outreach projects such as GlassLab, collaborating closely with designers to create one-of-a-kind glass objects.
