KILN FORMING CURRICULUM AT SINACA STUDIOS

Explore the Art of Fused and Slumped Glass

Discover the craft, chemistry, and creative potential of fused glass in SiNaCa Studios’ fundamentals-based curriculum. Whether you’re just starting out or expanding your foundation, our structured workshops and multi-week survey classes are designed to build real, transferable skills in a welcoming studio environment.

As the #2-ranked trade school in the 2025 DFW Favorites, SiNaCa is proud to provide accessible, high-quality instruction in a medium that bridges design, artistry, and technical precision.

Through guided lessons, you’ll learn to cut and layer Bullseye Glass (90 COE)—using frit, stringers, and sheet glass to explore composition, color reactions, and cold-working techniques. Projects are fired in an electric kiln over a 12+ hour cycle, transforming your designs into fused glass forms. Many projects are also slumped into molds to create functional or sculptural shapes.

All classes take place in our dedicated kiln forming studio, where experienced instructors support your growth at every stage of the learning journey—from your first fused tile to more advanced fused and slumped compositions.

🧭 How the Curriculum Works

  • Survey Classes – Multi-week introductions to foundational techniques and design theory
  • Workshops – Sessions to refine specific skills or project types that reinforce and expand on core techniques
  • Progression – Complete 3 workshops after each Survey class to move to the next level

🎉 New to Kiln Forming?  We recommend starting with the Experience Kiln Forming class—a one-time session where you’ll work with the guidance of our instructors to create both a 6×6 fused and slumped platter and a seasonal item. It’s a great way to get a feel for the tools, materials, and rhythm of the studio.  Use the link in the sidebar to explore Newbie Workshops

    – KILN FORMING CURRICULUM – LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS –

Four Week Survey Classes & Workshops

Through a structured series of Survey Classes and Workshops, students gain hands-on experience with fused and slumped glass techniques—from foundational design to advanced mold use.

Each level begins with a Survey Class, a four-week series that introduces core concepts, technical processes, and studio safety for that stage. After completing a survey, students can further hone their skills through targeted Workshops offered at the same level.

To move from one level to the next, we ask that students complete three workshops at their current level. This ensures a strong foundation before tackling more advanced techniques.

    Here’s how the structure works:

    • Survey Classes: 4-week series introducing foundational techniques include a set materials credit (to help get started right away)
    • Workshops: provide specialized skill-building experiences (materials not included)
    • Progression: Complete 3 workshops after each Survey Class to move to the next level
    • Included: All tools, equipment, and safety gear
    • Instruction is hands-on, guided by experienced artists in SiNaCa’s dedicated kiln forming studio

Whether you’re learning color reactions in Survey II or mastering mold use in a Level Three workshop, each step builds confidence and creative range—adding depth and polish to your personal portfolio.
