Created during a live demonstration at SiNaCa Studios’ November 2019 Open Studios, Acorn #3 is an early and foundational piece in Clifton Crofford’s current body of work. Created using a “waste mold” technique inspired by bronze foundry processes, the sculpture began with molds of human hands—specifically, those of Clifton’s daughter Eleanor. These molds were modeled in wax, cast into ceramic shell blow molds, and used to shape the glass in a single-use process. The result is a striking, organic form that blends symbolism, texture, and technical mastery.
The acorn represents renewal and the infinite potential held within each seed. The inclusion of human hands speaks to the essential role of community in cultivating ideas and growth. This piece also served as the narrative foundation for Clifton’s Fort Worth Public Art Project, The Seeds of a New Season, located on Magnolia Avenue.
Clifton Crofford’s passion for glass began at UT Arlington, where he explored design through architecture, theater, and art. After helping develop a new 3D art facility, he co-founded a glassblowing studio in Dallas/Fort Worth. In 2007, Clifton and fellow alumni established SiNaCa Studios, which opened to the public in 2010. His work blends ancient and modern symbols, exploring themes of balance, growth, and transformation. Through glass, Clifton invites viewers to pause, reflect, and connect.
